Time to reform Indian Education
A lot is being said about the Indian education system & the need to transform it. In recent past we have even seen some steps (rather wrong steps) in this direction by previous Govt.
The quest is to reduce the burden of education on the youngsters,& improve their intellect. What we saw was a change in pattern of examination focussed more on distributing marks & reducing competition. But little was done to make exams & classrooms more interesting.
It is said:- "Education is that what remains after man has lost all he read in school", and all of us admire this. but the question is are we really building an education system on these lines. We are forcing students to memorize more & more facts, Aligning their thinking to a single, outdated , unrewarding & destructive thinking, which prohibit people to think out of box, & takes away their originality from them.
Often, people give suggestion on what shall be done. But I will like to pose some questions???
- Why we have a system of appreciating a student from a particular stream more than others.
- Why a student from science stream has to study both Physics & Chemistry... Why cant he pick 5 different subjects from 5 different spheres of life.
- Why a person has to mug up facts & especially "who said what" to pass an exam?
- Why a person has to remember all the formulas when he can always look at them in a book? and finally
- Why a student has to give competitive entrance exams after passing the board exams???? Why do board exams exists if they do not mean anything to higher educational institutions.
I believe for those who really understand the spirit with which I have written this post would have understood my point while finding the answers to the above said questions.
Its time when we shall stop teaching our children what others did or said, & start teaching them about what is really important. We shall make them learn to live their dreams.
